Colin Meloy’s Cast of Characters

I suppose I should introduce my cast of characters with me on stage tonight, shouldn’t I? On my right, stage right, the little furry thing, that’s Erick with a K. Erick is spelled with a C though. So it’s Erick with a C with a K, but the “with the C” part is silent. It’s a little confusing but you’ll get used to it.

The lovely women in the middle is Cheryl. And the ship on the end is Maya Angelou. It’s interesting, isn’t it? You’re probably wondering why but I don’t really know why. I thought it’d be nice company on stage to have a sheep, a skull and a ship. I have no idea.

There’s an interesting metaphor that it presents.  You have the sheep, which represents life. You have the skull, which represents death, then you have the ship, which represents… ships, of all sorts. Maritime life in general.

None of them really serve much of a purpose, except for Cheryl. Cheryl is there to remind you of your ultimate demise.
