In the hands of a skilled artist, photo-realism (aka hyper realism) can go way beyond impressive, moving swiftly into the realm of the sublime. Ohio-based artist, Dennis Wojtkiewicz [pronounced voyt-KEV-itch] is one of those skilled artists, and his niche oil paintings of citrus and other fruits are powerful, energetic, and just make you wish you had a giant cup of tea.
I typically spend a lot of time on these pages, bloviating about what the art does to me, how it tickles my cerebellum and all that, but not today. Wojtkiewicz’s work needs no exposition. It pretty much speaks for itself.
I will say though that if the gods ate fruit, this is probably what it would look like. Behold.
Wojtkiewicz teaches art and drawing at Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green, Ohio and currently has new work at the Sugarman Gallery in Santa Fe, New Mexico if you happen to be there.
