Guitars. Bass. A drumkit the size of a small city and little steel boxes with pedals that can turn sound into pea soup.
This week’s Midweek Mixtape is a guest compilation by Jake Cooledge, a true reverb-freak whose blood I’m sure pumps to the tune of amplified power chords. For decades Jake’s hobby has been creating textured sound using a bass and the aforementioned pedals, creating landscapes of loops and drones that will ultimately take control of your mind.
So it follows he should choose songs for the mixtape that do the same, while at the same time rattling the neighbor’s windows and burning holes in the wallpaper. Make sure to turn this up loud, and fixate on what electricity can do to sound.
As Jake told me, “This could be the soundtrack for a fuzzed-out, far-out Wednesday…ah yeah.”
