Picaso’s Guernica in 3D

Guernica in the National Centre de Arte Reina Sofia in MadridGuernica may be Picaso’s most significant work. It’s got it all, deep symbolism, death, tragedy and an ox. It’s also a deeply personal response to a war he felt very close to but was completely removed from at the same time.

The following video has been around for a while but it’s rich as ever and allows a you so see this monumental piece like you never would just looking at it. Created by German photographer Lena Gieseke, she allows something you’ve always wanted to do with a piece of art – to step inside it and look around for awhile.

Lena asks,

“Is my model a true reconstruction of the Picasso’s painting, or is it merely a rough re-visualization? Is it still Picasso’s art or has it, through my addition of third dimension, become something completely different? It is not my place to answer those questions…”

All praise to Ms. Gieseke, to Picasso and the computer age for allowing something like this to happen.
