I’m so tired of the traditional music video format, and while granted I haven’t seen many of them since oh, I grew up, I’m pretty sure they aren’t at all like this. Director/Editor Chris Marrs Piliero has pulled a fast one for the fucking awesome Black Keys song “Howlin’ For You” and made a fucking awesome video.
Taking cues from any Tarantino/Robert Rodriguez camp fest you’ve ever seen, he’s made the vid into a faux-movie trailer, complete with deep-voiceover, flying bullets and dialog. Dialog! It’s not just okay. It totally kicks ass.
Piliero has made other strange inroads in the genre of music videos, like tuxedoed men with unicorn heads, Godzilla puppets singing to beautiful bikinied girls, but this one may be the cheekiest of them all.
As a huge fan of the Black Keys, I’m in love with this. And wait, is that The Flying Tomato with a cameo? Now that’s cheeky.
